1-3 finish for Judpot in 2yo feature

Varsfontein Stud’s hugely successful young sire Judpot was once again in the headlines this past weekend.
This time, it was Judpot’s 2yo daughter Maleficent who propelled her red hot sire into the news –with that Shirluck Stud bred filly lifting the Listed Devon Air Stakes bought to you by Rising Sun Printers, with another Judpot filly, Final Judgement, back in third place.

Maleficent, who races for owner Chris Gerber, has now won two of just three starts, and had romped to victory last time out when breaking her maiden by over five and a half lengths.

She is a full sister to this season’s top class 3yo Rocketball, who finished a close second to Triple Crown winner Abashiri in the G1 SA Derby.

Maleficent, a R160 000 buy from last year’s Val De Vie Yearling Sale, and Rocketball aside, Judpot is also the sire of this season’s 3yo filly sensation Juxtapose, winner of both the G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic and G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks.

An A P Indy half brother to classic winners East Of The Moon and Kingmambo, Judpot also hails from the same family as Ibn Malik –a leading contender for Wednesday’s G3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, as well as recent G1 Investec Oaks runner up Architecture.

Judpot has 11 yearlings on offer at the Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale at the end of this month and they include:
