13th black type win of the season for Captain Al

Champion Sire Captain Al enjoyed another big weekend, when the eight times champion sire of 2yos was represented by yet another impressive feature race winner on Saturday.

Captain Splendid, who provided Captain Al with his 13 black type win of the season, picked up the second graded victory of his career when lifting the G3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup at Greyville on Saturday.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, and owned by Fred Crabbia, the Justin Snaith trained four-year-old made it career win number four when landing the R300 000 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup by half a length over the consistent My World.

The gelding, who took his earnings to over R660 000 with his weekend feature race win, had previously tasted graded success when victorious in the G3 World Sports Betting East Cape Derby back in 2015.

Captain Splendid is yet another high class performer bred on the Captain Al/Fort Wood cross. This cross has also resulted in Klawervlei’s exciting young sire and G1 Grand Parade Cape Guineas winner William Longsword, G1 winner and R4 million plus earner Captain America, and the graded winners Captain’s Flame, Eighth Wonder, Fragrant Al, and Wheredowego –to name a few.

William Longsword

He joins the likes of William Longsword, Carry On Alice, Jo’s Bond, The Secret Is Out and Search Party as graded winners representing Captain Al in 2016-2017.

Out of the stakes winning Fort Wood mare Justthewayyouare, Captain Splendid is one of 77 stakes winners in total for Captain Al. The latter will be represented by his ultra game son Captain America in Saturday’s G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge at Greyville.
