Prominent Western Cape based sire Trippi is the sire of a real ATM money spinner in the form of Trip Tease.
Trained by Louis Goosen for owner Mario Ferreira, the uber consistent five-year-old made it 13 wins from just 20 outings when scoring a facile victory in a pinnacle plate over 1000m at the Vaal on Thursday.
Trip Tease, who has won or placed in 19 of his 20 outings, won Thursday’s race despite having to overcome a poor start which saw the gelding get hit in the face by the side of his starting stall.
The Zandvliet Stud bred gelding, who has now earned more than R1.26 million in stakes, is now likely to attempt defend his title Listed Hampton Handicap on Supreme Cup day.
Trip Tease’s ultimate mission for the season will be the 2016 G1 Cape Flying Championship, in which he finished fifth this year.
The bay, a bargain R70 000 buy at the 2012 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale, is all but unbeatable over 1000m on sand – he has won eight of nine outings over the course and distance, with Trip Tease’s sole defeat over the Vaal sand track’s 1000m trip coming back in 2014.
His sire Trippi also has another exciting sprint prospect to his credit in the form of the Highlands Farm bred Trip To Heaven. The latter, winner of the 2014 G2 Stronach Group Racing Merchants, makes his eagerly awaited return to the track at Turffontein this Saturday, when he is set to contest a graduation plate over 1200m.
