2016 Stallion Auction –a rousing success!

Friday’s Cape Breeders’ Club’s annual stallion services auction proved most successful, with R2 161 100 being raised by the club.
The money raised will be put into use for a number of functions, to benefit the industry and breeders especially. Causes the Cape Breeders Club will be aiding this year include African Horse Sickness vaccinations in the Cape, further groom education programmes, as well as a number of prominent industry publications, such as the Stallion Book and Turf Directory.  Funds from the auction will also be used for such functions as future stallion days, the club’s annual race day and the Cape’s annual awards evening.

Funds from the auction will also allow the Cape Breeders’ Club to provide members with access to the very popular True Nicks and G1 Goldmine for mating assistance.

The club would like to thank all those who so generously supported Friday’s auction, from Drakenstein Veterinarian Clinic (donated an arthroscopy operation) to all the stallion owners who donated services to some of the country’s very best stallions.

Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding resident sire Silvano topped the auction, with a service to the former champion sire being knocked down to Mayfair Speculators for R400 000.

Highlands’ leading sire Dynasty, and Klawervlei’s champion Captain Al, were also sought after at Friday night’s function. A service to Dynasty (who had an impressive graded double over the weekend) was sold to Derek Brugman for R390 000, while Captain Al (who once again heads South Africa’s General Sires List) had a service bought by Mayfair Speculators for R340 000.

Var, who regularly features among SA’s top sires both in the sales ring and on the track, was another Cape sire who was in demand –a service to that son of Forest Wildcat was sold to Andre Van Bassen for R200 000.
