22nd graded winner for Trippi

Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Trippi has enjoyed a magnificent season in 2014-2015. His progeny have won 19 black type races during the season – more than any other stallion currently standing at stud in South Africa. Trippi, who currently ranks fourth on South Africa’s General Sires List, is also currently the leading sire of 3yos for 2014-2015, with his sophomores having earned in excess of R7.68 million this past season.
On Saturday, Trippi was represented by the 22nd graded winner of his career when daughter Lanner Falcon picked up the G3 Champagne Stakes at Kenilworth.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, the chestnut Lanner Falcon made it back to back feature race wins having won the Listed Ladies Mile at her penultimate start.

The gutsy four-year-old filly has been the sole of consistency throughout her career with Lanner Falcon having now won or placed in 10 feature races. Among the races Lanner Falcon has won or placed in is the G3 Champagne Stakes, G1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas, G2 Sceptre Stakes, G3 Poinsettia Stakes and G3 Prix Du Cap.

Her sire Trippi has been represented by a tally of seven graded stakes winners during the last season, with his progeny winning such major local features as the G1 Maine Chance Farms Paddock Stakes, G1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes, G2 Stronach Group Racing Merchants, G2 Tibouchina Stakes, G3 Umzikhulu Stakes, G3 Champagne Stakes, G3 Pretty Polly Stakes and G3 Lebelo Sprint.

Trippi has runners in three Grade One features at Greyville next weekend –Old Em (Thekwini Stakes), Escape Route (Premier’s Champion Stakes), and Afrikaburn (Champions Cup).

The son of End Sweep could also be represented as a broodmare sire in one of the world’s greatest races. Talented 4yo Liam’s Map (by Unbridled’s Song) is a probable starter in the G1 Whitney Handicap, due to be run at Saratoga on August 8th.

Liam’s Map, who has reeled off four wins on the bounce, is out of Trippi’s top class daughter Miss Macy Sue, a five time stakes winner who ran third in the Breeders Cup F&M Sprint.

Trippi is also broodmare sire of the promising Irish 2yo Queen of Sicily, who ran third in the recent G3 Jebel Ali Racecourse & Stables Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh.
