Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Duke Of Marmalade has really been enjoying a fine run of success with his runners this past week.
Following his son Big Orange scoring a repeat win in Thursday’s G2 Princess Of Wales’s Arqana Racing Club Stakes, another of Duke Of Marmalade’s offspring enjoyed stakes success in Britain.
Duke Of Marmalade’s latest stakes winner, and 29th overall, was Pamona, who was victorious in Saturday’s Listed John Smith’s Silver Cup at York.
The progressive four-year-old filly (who was making her debut for new trainer Ralph Beckett, was given a chance by jockey Jim Crowley, who settled Pamona towards the rear of the field in Saturday’s contest.
Travelling ominously well inside the two furlong marker, Pamona kicked on powerfully to score by two lengths over Barsanti and Quest For More.
The filly, who had finished a good third behind subsequent G1 E P Taylor Stakes winner Curvy and dual G1 winner Pleascach in last year’s G2 Ribblesdale Stakes,
Pamona has now won or been placed in five stakes and may well be stepped up in class following her latest win.
