60th stakes winner for Silvano

Former Champion South African sire Silvano reached a significant landmark when his son Balance Sheet won Saturday’s G3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup at Greyville.
The Riyo Stud bred four-year-old provided Silvano with his 60th individual stakes winner when victorious in Saturday’s R250 000 race –and this tally looks likely to continue to grow further over the coming seasons.

Balance Sheet, runner up in last year’s G1 eLan Property Group Gold Cup, has now won four times and earned R609 275, and he looks a big contender for some of the country’s bigger staying races later in the season.

A R300 000 buy from the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, Balance Sheet is out of the unraced Al Mufti mare Vita-Louise.

The 2016 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup winner is thus bred on the same Silvano/Al Mufti cross as champions Bold Silvano and Kings Gambit and G2 Gold Bracelet winner Gallica Rose, among others.

Silvano, whose offspring include 16 individual G1 winners, is enjoying another magnificent season with his offspring having earned over R14 000 000 thus far.

The son of Lomitas has been represented by eight individual stakes winners this season, headed by G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas winner Silver Mountain and leading Vodacom Durban July contenders Black Arthur and Marinaresco.
A former champion sire in both South Africa and Slovakia, Silvano, whose runners include no fewer than nine official champions, is also the sire of promising young sire Bold Silvano –one of three sons of his sire to have won the G1 Vodacom Durban July.
