Klawervlei Stud’s outstanding sire Captain Al, whose sons Search Party and Captain Alfredo recently ran 1-3 in the G2 World Sports Betting Cape Merchants, again dominated another major Cape feature when his daughters Jo’s Bond and Carry On Alice filled the first two spots in Saturday’s G2 CTS Southern Cross Stakes at Kenilworth.
(Both Jo’s Bond and Carry On Alice are bred by Klawervlei, as were the Southern Cross fourth and fifth place finishers Beach Goddess and Real Princess respectively).
Jo’s Bond, who was winning for the seventh time in 16 outings, was a R325 000 buy at the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
She is the 75th stakes winner for Captain Al, South Africa’s Champion Sire in 2014-2015, and champion sire of 2yos for the past eight seasons in a row.
Captain Al has been enjoying another fantastic season thus far, with his runners having picked up such features as the G2 World Sports Betting Cape Merchants, G2 CTS Southern Cross Stakes, G3 Matchem Stakes, G3 Diana Stakes and G3 Rio Casino’s 10th Birthday Bash Promotion Graham Beck Stakes.
The former Cape Guineas winner (whose son William Longsword is a runner in Saturday’s G1 Grand Parade Cape Guineas) has 22 lots on offer at January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, including a colt out of multiple G1 winner Ebony Flyer (41), a son of Dubawi’s G1 winning daughter Happy Archer (Lot 41), a half brother to millionaire Whiteline Fever (Lot 84), a colt out of Red Ray’s G1 winning own sister Nania (Lot 137), and a colt out of G3 Acacia Handicap heroine Orator’s Daughter (Lot 142).
