Drakenstein Stud’s resident champion sire Trippi is responsible for one of the most successful broodmares currently at stud in North America.
Miss Macy Sue (by Trippi) was an outstanding racemare, whose 11 wins including five black type scores.
She also ran third, beaten two lengths, in the Breeders’ Cup F&M Sprint of 2007 –where Miss Macy Sue’s defeated rivals included another subsequent outstanding broodmare in the form of La Traviata.
However, this talented stakes winner has proved even more effective at stud than she was on the racecourse!
Miss Macy Sue has already two graded stakes winners to her credit, with the first of them being Lane’s End Farm’s popular young sire Liam’s Map (by Unbridled’s Song). A superb athlete, who won six of just eight outings, Liam’s Map (himself an $800 000 yearling buy) won both the G1 Woodward Stakes and G1 Las Vegas Breeders’ Cup Dirt by an accumulative margin of 7.25 lengths and earned over $1.3 million in prize money.
He now stands at stud in Kentucky for a stud fee of $25 000 –or over R360 000.
Miss Macy Sue’s current flagbearer is brilliant US 2yo Not This Time (Giant’s Causeway) who made it two wins from just three outings when romping to victory in Saturday’s G3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs. The Dale Romans trained colt made a mockery of the $150 000 and drew clear to register a whopping 8.75 length win –and stamp himself a legitimate candidate for the 2017 US Triple Crown.
Not This Time clearly impressed his trainer, who commented after the stunning win, “He’s the real deal. He’s spooky good and I think he’s everything I’ve always thought he was. He’s just so talented,” Romans said. “He just sat outside. I usually say to stay inside and eat them if you have to in order to save ground, but when I think I have tons the best, I tell them to keep them in the clear and keep them in a nice, long gallop, and just try to overtake them and that’s what he did.”
The Iroquois Stakes has previously been won by such future stars as Uncaptured (Horse Of The Year), Court Vision (G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile), The Cliff’s Edge (G1 Blue Grass Stakes), as well as triple G1 winner and top class sire Harlan’s Holiday.
To date, three of Miss Macy Sue’s first four foals are stakes winners –she is also dam of Any Limit Stakes winner Taylor S (Medaglia D’Oro)–and all three are by different sires!
