The Wilgerbosdrift bred champion Asylum Seeker was represented by an eye catching Australian winner on Tuesday afternoon.
Her two-year-old daughter Seeking Asylum made a winning debut at Bathurst when accounting for some older rivals in a maiden over 1308m in the mid week meeting and looks an above average sort.
Seeking Asylum, the second winner for her Australian based dam, is a daughter of former Champion 2YO and G1 Golden Slipper winner Sebring (by More Than Ready) –who has been represented by no fewer than eight individual juvenile winners this season.
Seeking Asylum, who was a $100 000 buy from the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, is trained by Gary Portelli.
Her dam, Asylum Seeker (whose sire Count Dubois is also responsible for this season’s outstanding 3yo French Navy), was an exceptional racemare and champion in her own right. She won four of her first five outings – and finished second in the other two races. Asylum Seeker, who was named South Africa’s Champion 2YO Filly of 2006, scored the biggest win of her career when victorious in the G1 Golden Slipper of 2006, when accounting for the high class fillies Trust Antonia, Oracle News, and Sally Bowles.
Asylum Seeker, who hails from the same family as South African Horse Of The Year Horse Chestnut, has both a yearling and weanling filly by Sebring, and is back in foal to that former champion.
