Back to back Umzimkhulu wins for Trippi

Leading sire Trippi made it back to back wins in the G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes on Friday night, when his daughter Fromafar prevailed in the R250 000 feature.
Last year, the G3 feature had been won by Trippi filly One Fine Day, who defeated subsequent G2 Fillies Guineas winner Alexis to win the 2015 Umzimkhulu Stakes.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Fromafar, heroine of the 2016 race, was a R300 000 buy from the 2014 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale and Friday night’s G3 win pushed Fromafar’s earnings to over R337 925. She has now won or placed in eight of ten outings and looks a natural contender for the G2 KZN Fillies Guineas next month.

Trippi very nearly had a feature race double on Friday night with his beautifully bred son Baritone running a close second in the night’s G3 Byerley Turk. Baritone, who reeled off three wins on the trot earlier this season, looks another potential Guineas candidate for his sire.

The 2016 Umzimkhulu Stakes winner is Trippi’s latest 3yo to impress this season, with Fromafar having been preceded by such high class performers as R8 000 000 plus earner Illuminator, and fellow stakes winners Brilliant Crimson, Jane S Piddy and Speedy Suzy.

Another Trippi daughter, the triple G1 winning Inara, is one of the leading contenders for Saturday’s G1 L Jaffee Empress Club Stakes at Turffontein.

Trippi’s progeny have earned over $50 000 000 thus far –more than US sire sensation War Front (who currently stands for a fee of $200 000).

The son of End Sweep is enjoying another magnificent season and is currently South Africa’s leading sire by stakes (R11.99 million). Trippi has five lots on offer at Friday’s Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale including a filly out of G2 winner Fragrant Al (Lot 55), a colt out of Street Cry’s G3 winning daughter Hollywood Boulevard (Lot 70), and a full sister to this season’s G2 Premier Trophy winner Paterfamilias (Lot 91).

Trippi also has a high class draft on offer at the upcoming National Yearling Sale, where his nine yearlings include a colt out of G2 winner Hawker Hunter (Lot 129), a filly whose stakes winning dam is out of Horse Of The Year Ilha Da Vitoria (Lot 142) and a full brother to the above mentioned Inara, who has earned over R2.6 million thus far (Lot 224).
