Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Black Minnaloushe enjoyed a weekend to remember.
Not only was the son of Storm Cat represented by his 36th stakes winner, but Black Minnaloushe was responsible for the second top colt sold at the weekend’s March Yearling Sale.
Black Minnaloushe, whose 3yos this season also include Sunday’s impressive winner Sylvester The Cat, is the sire of Mathematician, one of the top 3yos currently in Zimbabwe.
The latter picked up the first feature race win of his career when successful in Sunday’s G3 Bloodstock South Africa 2000 at Borrowdale on Saturday.
Bred on the same Black Minnaloushe/Elliodor cross as former Equus Champion Kochka, Mathematician had previously finished third in the G3 Zimbabwe Guineas.
His sire’s good run continued at Durbanville racecourse on the same day, when a Black Minnaloushe colt was knocked down to Rainbow Beach Trading for R600 000 –making him the CTS March Sale’s second top colt sold.
Consigned by the Ambiance Stud, the unnamed colt, Black Minnaloushe’s sole yearling on sale, is out of the West Man mare Purple Peony –a half sister to G3 Poinsettia Stakes winner Purple Lake.
The sire of over 60 stakes horses (including 8 G1 winners), Black Minnaloushe has three lots on offer at the Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale –including a colt whose dam is a half sister to 2 stakes winners (Lot 10) and a colt whose dam is a Silvano half sister to G1 performer Rippling Ring (Lot 172).
The former Irish 2000 Guineas winner also has four lots on offer at next month’s National Yearling Sale in Germiston. Black Minnaloushe’s National draft includes a half brother to G3 Diana Stakes winner and recent Lady’s Pendant heroine Double Whammy (Lot 105), and a filly whose dam is a half sister to G1 winner and Cape Fillies Guineas runner up Gilded Minaret (Lot 116).
