The Patricia Devine bred Gimme The Stars became his sire’s fourth first crop stakes winner when he landed the Listed Ibhayi Stakes at Fairview on Friday.

Another son of Gimmethegreenlight, Green Lantern, ran third in the Ibhayi to give the son of More Than Ready a 1-3 in the first leg of the East Cape Sophomore Challenge.

Gimme The Stars, who has now banked more than R260 000, made it three wins in a row (and his fourth overall) when accounting for the well related Cock-A-Hoop to score the first feature race win of his career by a neck.

The sire was also responsible for Saturday’s winning 2yo La Bella Mia, who became the fourth juvenile winner for Gimmethegreenlight this season when scoring a comfortable 3.75 length win at Turffontein. Other 2yo winners for Gimme this season include impressive debut winners Green Top and Green Plains.

Gimmethegreenlight was not the only son of world leading sire More Than Ready, however, to enjoy a big weekend.
His paternal half-brother Sebring, sire of champions Criterion and Dissident, had a stakes double in Australia this past weekend, when daughters Turbo Miss and Seannie won the G3 VRC Frances Tressady Stakes and Listed WATC Supremacy Stakes respectively.

Former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Gimmethegreenlight has seven lots on offer at next week’s Cape Yearling Sale, with his draft including a filly out of a ½ sister to champion Laverna (Lot 33), a filly from the great Queen Of Light family (Lot 50), a colt out of G2 winner Cruise Collection (Lot 113) and a colt out of a stakes placed daughter of Royal Academy (Lot 141).
