Bang in form sire Jay Peg had another cracking weekend when the former Equus Champion had a hatrick of winners.
Highlight of the weekend, however, came in the form of Jay Peg’s son Exit Here, who showed his class with an emphatic and courageous win in the Listed KZN Guineas Trial at Greyville on Sunday.
The Moutonshoek bred colt led all the way, under a fine front running ride from Anton Marcus, to record a convincing two and a quarter length win in the 1600m contest.
Owned by The Fire Racing Trust in partnership with Markus Jooste, Exit Here was a R1.15 million buy from the 2014 March Yearling Sale.
The versatile Exit Here, who has won on both turf and the polytrack, has now won his last four in a row, and he looks destined for bigger and better things. Yet to finish out of the first two in his first six outings thus far, Exit Here looks likely to follow in his sire’s footsteps and continue to improve with age.
Jay Peg, whose other winners this weekend included the beautifully bred Le Clos at the Vaal on Saturday and the uber game Neala at Kenilworth on Sunday, has enjoyed a superb run of success lately. He currently ranks above such top sires as Fort Wood, Elusive Fort and Seventh Rock on the General Sires List, and is South Africa’s seventh leading sire of 3yos –ahead of Warm White Night, Judpot, Kahal, Fort Wood and Greys Inn.
Exit Here is the second recent feature race winner for the former G1 Dubai Duty Free hero, whose talented daughter Pegwell Bay added to her sire’s record as a sire of high class stakes winners.
Past stakes winners for the four time Gr1 winner include Gr3 Cape Of Good Nursery winner Flash Drive and the hugely talented filly Hot Affair.
Jay Peg, a grandson of the immortal A P Indy, has just a single lot on offer at the upcoming CTS Ready To Run Presented by Lanzerac Hotel &Spa –a filly, whose dam is by the outstanding sire Cape Cross, from the family of G1 winner Happiness.
