Big weekend for Silvano

Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Silvano enjoyed yet another tremendous weekend. The former champion, and current leading South African sire, was represented by no fewer than five individual winners.
This tally of winners included the hugely promising colt Black Arthur, who made it three wins from just four outings when scoring a remarkable victory in Saturday’s G3 Cartier Politician Stakes at Kenilworth on L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate day.

Bred and owned by Alec and Gillian Foster, Black Arthur dropped right out and was at one stage 20 lengths of the leaders. However, jockey Piere Strydom coaxed a superb late finish from the still-green colt, and the pair flew home to record a three parts of a length win over Marinaresco and Liege.

Black Arthur, now a winner of three on the bounce, looks very smart and appears to be a colt out of the top drawer. He is one of over 50 stakes winners for his sire, whose tally includes no fewer than 16 G1 winners.

Among the other beaten runners was G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes hero Rabada

The Politician Stakes was a double triumph for Silvano, with sons Black Arthur and Marinaresco finishing 1-2. Remarkably, Silvano had no fewer than four runners in a race widely regarded as a prep for the G1 Investec Cape Derby in two weeks.

Silvano has made a tremendous start to the 2015-2016, with his runners including four individual stakes winners. This tally includes the brilliant filly Silver Mountain, winner of both the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas and G2 Choice Carriers Fillies Championship –and a leading contender for the CTS $1 000 000 race, and the above mentioned Black Arthur.

Silvano has a superb draft on offer at next week’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale. His 25 strong draft includes a colt out of champion and Vodacom Durban July winner Dancer’s Daughter (Lot 187), a full sister to SA Derby winner Seal (Lot 57), a half brother to G1 winner and young Cape sire Potala Palace (Lot 138), and a sister to Silvano’s R2 000 000 plus earner Tellina (Lot 105). The latter filly is also a half sister to potential Singapore Derby runner Time Odyssey.

Silvano has made a pleasing start as a sire of sires in South Africa, with one son Bold Silvano siring a winner from his first runner, and another son Vercingetorix having covered over 120 mares in his first season at stud.
