Black Minnaloushe leads log
Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Black Minnaloushe has an extraordinary season in 2013-2014.
The son of Storm Cat recently recorded a rare SA Derby-Oaks double when Louis The King (Derby) and Ash Cloud (Oaks) pulled off the double.
Black Minnaloushe’s son, Louis The King, became just the second horse ever to win the SASCOC Triple Crown – and the current star 3yo has now won over R5 million in prize money. Louis The King, a Vodacom Durban July nominee, has won six of seven outings to date, and has won 2 Grade One contests, landing the Gr1 SA Classic prior to his Derby success.

His sire’s current crop of 3yos include three individual Grade One winners – as well as Black Balladeer, a runner in Sunday’s R350 000, Gr3 East Cape Derby.

Black Minnaloushe, not surprisingly, is currently South Africa’s leading sire of 3yos. At the time of writing, the sire’s 3yos have earned over R5.2 million – placing him well clear on the 3yo sires log (by money earned) of the likes of Trippi, Dynasty, Jet Master, Judpot and Captain Al.

He is also fifth on South Africa’s leading sires of 2yos log, with his juveniles having enjoyed considerable success this year.
Sire of last season’s Equus Champion 2YO Colt Kochka, Black Minnaloushe’s current crop of juveniles include the smart Littleblacknumber, second in the Gr3 Strelitzia Stakes, while his daughter, Black Chrome, is a runner in Saturday’s Gr3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery.

Winner of both the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas and G1 St James Palace Stakes, Black Minnaloushe (South Africa’s third leading sire by stakes money) was an outstanding racehorse, who has made a considerable mark in South Africa.

This season, Black Minnaloushe’s offspring have won six feature races – with the promise of more to come!
