Bold Ellinore tops broodmare sale
Former Equus Champion Bold Ellinore topped the recent Arc-en-Ciel Broodmare Sale, held last Friday.
The daughter of Kahal, in foal to Western Winter, was knocked down to Rosedene Stud for R390 000.
Consigned by Wilgerbosdrift as lot 11, Bold Ellinore was an outstanding racemare, whose seven career victories included the 2007 Gr1 Garden Province Stakes.

Second top priced mare was the well bred mare Bay Leaf. Consigned by Mauritzfontein Stud, Bay Leaf was knocked down to Middlefield Stud for R350 000. Bay Leaf, who sold in foal to Ideal World, is a winning full sister to Gr1 SA Derby winner Bouquet-Garni (Strike Smartly). This is an outstanding international family, and Bay Leaf traces back to Spring Adieu (dam of Danehill).

Of the weanlings on offer, lot 79 proved most popular. The son of Seventh Rock, who is out of a full sister to Stormsvlei (dam of Pocket Power and River Jetez) was bought by Marsh Shirtliff for R170 000.

In total, the 69 lots sold fetched R3 838 000, for an average price of R55, 623.
