Moutonshoek’s beautifully bred sire Mambo In Seattle received yet another boost to his already tremendous female line when Guest Suite won Saturday’s G3 Lecomte Stakes at the Fair Grounds racetrack.
A three-year-old gelded son of Quality Road, Guest Suite was coming into the Lecomte having won an allowance race by 6.75 lengths, and duly lived up to his status as the 14/5 favourite.
Guest Suite is trained by Neil Howard, who said of his charge, following his one and a quarter length win in the $200 000 contest, “It was nice to see him come back and duplicate his last race off a little bit of a layoff, in the mud. But he was good in the paddock, because he’s had a moment or two growing up. So that’s been one thing with him, but I think he’s over that.”
Guest Suite, who ran third in the Street Sense Stakes last year, has now won three of just five outings and looks set to progress further on the road to the G1 Kentucky Derby in May.
His third dam is none other than former US Broodmare Of The Year Weekend Surprise (dam of classic winners and leading sires A P Indy and Summer Squall, as well as former successful SA sire Tiger Ridge).
Weekend Surprise, in turn, is the second dam of former G1 Travers Stakes runner up Mambo In Seattle, whose top runners include dual G1 winning millionaire Same Jurisdiction and the graded winners Mambo Mime and Fortune Fella.
