Byword foal for Grade 1 winning mare
The well bred and performed Urabamba recently gave birth to this lovely colt foal .
The striking colt is from the first crop of Mauritzfontein’s well performed young stallion Byword – winner of the 2010 Group 1 Prince of Wales Stakes.

A daughter of champion sire and broodmare sire Fort Wood, Urabamba won over R800 000 in her racing career with her victories included a win in the 2008 Gr1 SA Fillies Classic.

She has also made a promising start to her stud career, with Urabamba’s first foal being the classy Captain Al filly Copiapo – runner up in the Gr3 Starling Stakes. Another of Urabamba’s foals, the Jet Master colt Master’s Spirit, was sold for R3.4 million at the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Byword’s first foals have really caught the eye, and the son of Peintre Celebre can hardly have made a better start to his stud career.

Middlefield Stud (where Byword began his stud career)’s Rob Pickering raves about the stallion’s first crop. Pickering describes Byword’s first foals as “All The Byword foals are showing the same quality that Byword has. Generally, they have all been a good size and have good bone, and, up to now, all the legs have been fine.”

France’s high weight older male of 2010, Byword has a 2014 stud fee of R30 000.
