Mauritzfontein Stud’s well performed young sire Byword hails from an outstanding female line.
Not only is Byword a half brother to multiple G1 winner Proviso (by Dansili), but he traces back directly in female line to the legendary broodmare Conjure, herself the ancestress of countless classic winners.
This happens also to be the family of one of the leading contenders for Friday’s G1 Investec Oaks – Jack Naylor (by Mauritzonftein’s resident sire Ideal World’s close relative Champs Elysees).
Fourth last time, when running on strongly late on, out in the classic Irish 1000 Guineas, Jack Naylor, whose dam Fashionable won the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes is currently an 8-1 chance for this weekend’s English classic. To date, the Jessica Harrington trained filly has won three of her seven outings, with her wins including the G3 Jockey Club Of Turkey Flash Stakes last year. Jack Naylor also has a defeat of subsequent Qipco 1000 Guineas winner Legatissimo to her credit- having beaten that Danehill Dancer in the Listed Flame Of Tara EBF Stakes as a juvenile.
She is one of 11 runners likely to face the starter in Friday’s Investec Oaks.
Jack Naylor’s third dam De Stael is an own sister to Byword’s third dam Balabina. Interestingly, both De Stael and Balabina are also sisters to former successful South African sire Peacetime.
Byword, whose first crop are now foals, was an outstanding racehorse with his seven wins including the G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
