Top class racemare Jack Naylor (Champs Elysees), a close relative of Mauritzfontein Stud’s exciting young sire Byword, proved hugely popular on the second select session of the 2016 Tattersalls December Mare Sale on Tuesday.
Jack Naylor, whose four wins included the G3 Turkey Jockey Club Silver Flash Stakes, was knocked down to London Thoroughbred Services for 800 000 guineas –making her the fifth top lot sold at the sale thus far.
The mare, who sold as a horse out of training, also won the G3 DC Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Stakes and ran second in the G1 Darley Irish Oaks and third in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac.
She was produced by the stakes winning Nashwan mare Fashionable, whose victories included the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes.
Fashionable’s granddam is De Stael (Nijinsky II), whose nine winners include US champion filly and multiple G1 winner Wandesta (by Nashwan).
De Stael, a full sister to G1 Coronation Cup hero Quiet Fling and former successful SA sire Peacetime, is out of the hugely successful mare Peace (Klairon) –the fourth dam of Byword.
An outstanding racehorse, and former French champion, Byword’s seven wins included the 2010 G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, where he accounted for no fewer than seven G1 winners.
He also won or placed in eight stakes races, and ran triple G1 Breeders’ Cup winner Goldikova to half a length when second in the G1 Prix d’Ispahan.
The charismatic chestnut has also proven popular with buyers –with his first crop fetching up to R2 000 000 last season.
Byword’s first 2yos race this season.
