Few young stallions are more effective at stamping their foals than Mauritzfontein’s popular young sire Byword.
The former G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner’s first crop of foals, which will sell as yearlings in 2016, by and large are all the spitting image of their sire.
Latest Byword foal to catch the eye is this pretty filly out of the winning Fort Wood mare Woodland Spirit. The latter is out of Jumeirah Beach –a full sister to former G1 J&B Met winner Zebra Crossing.
Byword has some exceptional individuals in his first crop, which includes foals out of such high class mares as Hurricane Queen (G3 Acacia Hcp), Kalami (2nd G1 SA Fillies Classic), Red Kaschka (dam of millionaire Red Barrel), and G1 SA Fillies Classic winner Urabamba.
France’s top weighted male of 2010, the well performed Byword’s seven victories included four Group race wins. The handsome chestnut, who won from 1600-2000m and earned nearly £700 000 in stakes, was also second in the G1 Prix D’Ispahan (beaten only by triple Breeders Cup Mile winner Goldikova) and third in the G1 Juddmonte International.
His biggest victory came in the G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, where Byword beat G1 winners/champions Twice Over, Cavalryman, Debussy, Glass Harmonium, Presvis and Shalanaya.
Other top class performers beaten by Byword include Chinchon (G1 Singapore Cup), Cirrus Des Aigles (7 time G1 winner), Cutlass Bay (G1 Prix Ganay), Desert Blanc (G1 Manhattan Handicap), Dick Turpin (G1 Prix Jean Prat), Jakkalberry (G1 Gran Premio Di Milano), Kingsfort (G1 National Stakes), and US Champion and G1 Prix de Diane winner Stacelita.
