Cape bred strikes in Dubai!
The Cape bred Kavanagh scored an eye catching success in Dubai on Saturday afternoon. The Wilgerbosdrift bred and owned gelding won a 1200m handicap at Meydan to register his first success in Dubai.
From the barn of champion trainer Mike de Kock, Kavanagh was coming into the race off a world class performance in the Gr3 Al Shindagha Sprint. Beaten a length into second place by Australian G1 winner Mental, Kavanagh defeated some world-class sprinters in the Shindagha, including last year’s G1 Golden Sheehan hero Krypton Factor.

Kavanagh, a son of Storm Cat horse Tiger Ridge, was a top-class performer in South Africa, where he won over R1 000 000 in prize money, and scored a notable debut win in the Gr2 The Nursery.

It was a truly tremendous weekend for Mary Slack’s Wilgerbosdrift Stud, who recently announced their sponsorship of the Triple Tiara.

Kavanagh also provided Wilgerbosdrift with another memorable moment for their resident sire Tiger Ridge, who along with stable mate Right Approach, enjoyed huge success at Turffontein on Guineas day.

Right Approach sons Whiteline Fever and Approachable fought out the finish to the R300,000 Gr2 Hawaii Stakes, giving their sire a memorable 1-2 finish in the process.

Tiger Ridge, whose son Wagner won this season’s Summer Cup, has enjoyed a magnificent season in 2012-2013. His success continued on Saturday when his daughters Amur Affair and Cherry on The Top, owned and bred by Mary’s mother Bridget Oppenheimer, won the Gr3 Acacia Handicap and Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas respectively.

Both Right Approach and Tiger Ridge will be handsomely represented at the up-coming yearling sales.
Right Approach has 13 yearlings on sale at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale (Book 2) later this month. His yearlings include a colt out of the well bred stakes winner Loupe and a colt whose dam is a sister to 2013 Met winner, Martial Eagle.
His nine National Yearling Sales lots include a colt out of G1 winner Emerald Beauty, a half-sister to G1 winner African Appeal and a half-brother to champion racehorse Kildonan.

Tiger Ridge has 4 yearlings on the Cape Sale, including a filly out of the G1 placed mare My Squeeza, who is a sister to 5 winners.

His 18 yearlings on the National Sale includes a colt out of stakes winner Cantorist, and a half-brother to Gr3 Algoa Cup winner Escapology.
