Cape breds star in Dubai
Saturday’s 2014 Dubai World Cup race meeting at Meydan proved a triumph for Cape bred thoroughbreds.

Beaumont Stud and Highlands Farm Stud produced the 1-2 in the Gr2 Godolphin Mile when champions Variety Club (Var) and Soft Falling Rain (National Assembly) fought out the finish to the $1 000 000 event.

Dual Horse Of The Year Variety Club, who has won nine of his last ten outings, took his record to 16 wins in just 22 outings. The handsome chestnut, who is owned by Markus and Ingrid Jooste, has won no fewer than 12 stakes races, with Variety Club’s impressive string of victories including four at Gr1 level.

His next race could well be the Gr1 Champions Mile at Sha Tin on May 5th.

Other Cape breds to feature on the evening included:

Star Empire (bred by Messrs Muller, Ratner and Salzman) 3rd in Gr2 Dubai Gold Cup
Shea Shea (bred by Klawervlei) 3rd Gr1 Al Quoz Sprint
Vercingetorix (bred by KLawervlei) 2nd Gr1 Dubai Duty Free

Saturday’s World Cup meeting proved another great advertisement for the quality and class of thoroughbred produced in South Africa. Long may this success continue!
