Cape Nursery double for Normandy Stud

Veronica Foulkes’ Normandy Stud made headlines recently when the farm’s graduates, Nordic Breeze and Sergeant Hardy, won the G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery and G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery on the same day.

The Nursery double was extra special for Normandy, as Veronica races Sergeant Hardy and has a share with Jane and Ken Truter in Nordic Breeze.

It was a first time that Normandy had enjoyed the Cape Nursery double, although Veronica did breed former G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner Annie. The latter, a daughter of Trigger Finger and the Peaceable Kingdom mare Song Of Peace, subsequently became an outstanding broodmare with her foals including former Equus Champion 2YO Ice Cube (by Western Winter) and the latter’s G2 Green Point Stakes winning own brother Jagged Ice, and Annie is also second dam of Listed Settlers Trophy winner Arezzo (by Go Deputy).

The talented, but quirky, Nordic Breeze (a daughter of Windrush), was a R200 000 purchase from last year’s CTS Ready To Run Sale hosted by Lanzerac Hotel & Spa.

Veronica no longer has Nordic Vine, but the latter, whose last foal is a Warm White Night filly, has been a wonderful servant to Normandy.

A daughter of multiple champion sire and broodmare sire Northern Guest, Nordic Vine’s seven other winners include G3 Matchem Stakes winner and G1 Golden Horse Casino Sprint runner up Rushing Wind (by Windrush), and Listed East Cape Guineas hero Ice Wine (by Western Winter).

Nordic Vine, herself an unraced daughter of the stakes winning Foveros mare Montrachet, is also the dam of the high class galloper Yer-Maan (by Jam Alley) –whose victories included both the OK Grand Challenge and Castle Tankard in Zimbabwe. Another daughter of Nordic Vine, Arctic Breeze (a full sister to Nordic Breeze), will be represented by a daughter of top sire Dynasty at the CTS Ready To Run Sale in November.

Sergeant Hardy (by Captain Al), who has now won three of just four starts including the Listed The Sun International Summer Juvenile Stakes on Met day, is out of the Hard Up mare Hard Lady, who is currently in foal to Redoute’s Choice’s multiple G1 winning son Wylie Hall.

Hard Lady, who has a Dynasty weanling filly this year, herself was a smart, stakes placed winner of four, who ran second in the Listed East Cape Breeders’ Stakes.
