Cape Thoroughbred Sales’ proudly announce that the catalogue for their 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale is now available online.
The two day sale, one of South Africa’s truly premier yearling sales, has been scheduled to take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on January 21st and 22nd. Last year, the sale saw a new South African record for a thoroughbred at auction in South Africa, when a son of Dynasty was knocked down for R5.2 million.
The Premier Yearling Sale catalogue looks exceptionally strong in 2016, with no fewer than 256 yearlings catalogued to go through the ring. Remarkably, 18 Grade One winners/producers are represented on the two day sale, which annually sees buyers from all over the world in attendance.
South Africa’s leading sires are all well represented, with the likes of Captain Al (23), Dynasty (15), Kahal (1), Silvano (25), Trippi (10), Var (23) and Western Winter (1) all sires of yearlings on sale.
There is also an unusually strong group of first crop stallions, with the likes of Byword (7), Marchfield (2), Oratorio (31), and Twice Over (18) all represented by some attractive lots from their first South African crops.
Not surprisingly, for a sale with such an international flavour, there are also lots by some top class overseas performers and sires, with the likes of Bernardini, Big Brown, former Equus Champion Delago Deluxe, Lope De Vega, Pluck, Poet’s Voice, Wanted and the sensational sire Uncle Mo. The latter, himself a former Breeders Cup winning champion, made a superb start to his stud career with his first US crop including 7 stakes winners –two of which being Grade One winners.
The sale will also offer buyers the chance to acquire siblings to such outstanding current performers as Afrikaburn, All Is Secret,Bichette, Capetown Noir, Cataloochee, Contador, Daring Dave, Evading Tempete, Fairyinthewoods,Gothic, Hard Day’s Night, Halve The Deficit, Lazer Star, Legal Eagle, Liquid Mercury, Maybe Yes, Potala Palace, Reflective Image, Russian Sage, Seal, Silver Mountain, Soft Falling Rain, Tellina, and Viva Maria.
CEO Adrian Todd was pleased by the catalogue, saying, “”We are pleased with the 2016 CPYS catalogue, numbers have increased without compromising quality and we are looking forward to a successful sale.”
