Cartier Glory for Avontuur blue blood
Britain hosted its annual Cartier Awards ceremony on Tuesday evening, which saw brilliant Arc winning filly Treve named Horse Of The Year. A number of other great champions were honoured at that evening.
Interestingly, the Cartier Champion 3YO Colt for 2013 has strong ties to a blue blooded resident at Avontuur.
Magician, whose G1 Irish 2000 Guineas/Breeders Cup Turf double secured him the coveted title of Cartier 3yo colt, is closely related to the beautifully bred Avontuur based broodmare, Paradise Beach.
Paradise Beach, a daughter of champion sire Danehill Dancer, is a granddaughter of the highly successful Irish River mare Brigid (who is the third dam of Magician).
Paradise Beach’s dam is by Sadler’s Wells – himself the grandsire of Magician, so Paradise Beach’s dam is a sister in blood to the Cartier Champion of 2013.
Brigid’s other descendants include the Group One winners Saffron Walden (Irish 2000 Guineas), Dolphin Street (Prix de La Foret), Listen (Fillies Mile), and Henrythenavigator. The latter won both the 2000 Guineas and Irish 2000 Guineas, before retiring to stud, where he has already sired a Breeders Cup winner in George Vancouver.
The beautifully bred Paradise Beach has a Var colt at foot, and has tested in foal to first season sire, and champion sprinter, What A Winter.
Her progeny must be followed over the next few seasons, as this family continues to blossom and go from strength to strength.
