Champion’s first crop to make their mark

Few, if any, locally bred and raced horses retired to stud with better credentials than those of What A Winter.
The triple Equus Award winner not only went to stud with the reputation of being one of the finest sprinters seen out in South Africa for many a year, but also is a smashing looking horse with a superb pedigree.

What A Winter, a dual champion sprinter, won 15 races and more than R3 million in prize money, with his four G1 wins coming in the Computaform Sprint, Mercury Sprint and Cape Flying Championship. The latter race he made his own –winning it twice and finishing second once in three attempts.

Among the champions/G1 winners beaten by What A Winter during his illustrious career were August Rush, Chocolicious, Copper Parade, Delago Deluxe (now a red-hot young sire in Australia), Earl Of Surrey, Ebony Flyer, J J The Jet Plane, Solo Traveller, Top Seller, Val De Ra and Via Africa.
