Classic boost for Judpot

Classic boost for Judpot
Varsfontein Stud’s resident stallion Judpot received a considerable boost to his pedigree page, following the running of the Group 1 French 2000 Guineas (Poule D’Essai des Poulains) on Sunday.
The winner Karakontie (a son of Storm Cat horse Bernstein) is a great grandson of champion racemare Miesque (herself the dam of Judpot).

Karakontie, who has now won four of six outings, had previously won the Group 1 Prix Jean Luc Lagardere last season and clearly rates amongst the best of his generation.

His dam, Sun Is Up, is out of a Woodman half-sister, not only to Judpot, but two another pair of French classic winners – East of the Moon (French 1000 Guineas) and Kingmambo (French 2000 Guineas). Sun Is Up is also a half-sister to the high-class South African raced filly Amanee (subsequently covered by Frankel), whose victories included both the Gr1 Thekwini Stakes and Gr2 KRA Fillies Guineas.

Miesque herself won the French 1000 Guineas (in 1987) and nine other Grade/Group 1 races.

Judpot (by A P Indy), whose first crop  have produced six stakes horses to date, was South Africa’s Equus Outstanding Stallion of last season.
