The legacy of the great stallion Danzig has been felt throughout the world. His sons Danehill, Green Desert, and War Front have founded great dynasties around the globe, while his son National Assembly left behind no fewer than 16 individual G1 winners during his time at stud in South Africa. Danzig is also the male line ancestor of 2016 Investec Derby winner Harzand.
Another Danzig son, Antonius Pius, was South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire in 2012-2013. A superb athlete, who was a desperately unlucky loser of the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) in 2004, Antonius Pius won the G2 Railway Stakes at two and finished second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile a year later.
This talented racehorse, who earned over £300 000 in stakes, accounted for such outstanding performers as American Post (French 2000 Guineas), Artie Schiller (Breeders Cup Mile), Bachelor Duke (Irish 2000 Guineas), Denebola (Champion), Haafhd (2000 Guineas, Champion Stakes), Musical Chimes (French 1000 Guineas), Six Perfections (Breeders Cup Mile), and Soaring Free (Horse Of The Year), among others, during his racing career.
Since retiring to stud at Highlands, Antonius Pius has left behind a host of top class performers headed by the graded winners Antonius Du Bois, Belong To Me and My Sanctuary, as well as multiple East Cape champion Yoshie.
Boland Stud are pleased to be able buyers the chance to acquire a yearling by this top class racehorse at the 2016 Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale.
Lot 206, already named Antony Hotspur, is a half brother to a winner. His dual winning dam, Scarlet Grits, is a half sister to Listed August Stakes winner Storm Crossing –who was third in the 2010 G2 Emerald Cup.
The colt’s second dam Flaming Corn won five times including the G3 Final Fling Stakes, and she is a daughter of leading sire and outstanding broodmare sire Elliodor.
Among the numerous G1 winners/champions produced by Elliodor mares are recent Triple Crown winner Abashiri, champion stayer Aslan, champion sprinter Val De Ra, champion 3yo French Navy, as well as the likes of Cordocelli, Dog Wood, Donatella, and July winner Trademark.
Flaming Corn, in turn, is out of the six time stakes winning Dancing Champ mare Cornglow, who also features as the third dam of G2 Emerald Cup winner Meadow Magic.
This is also the family of former Horse Of The Year Irish Flame, whose first yearlings sell this year, former G1 Gold Cup runner up Vertical Takeoff and champion 2yo Smackeroo.
