Cracking National draft from Boland Stud

The Ceres based Boland Stud has a long and proven record of breeding and raising some of the finest racehorses to grace the South African turf. Their past graduates include no fewer than five champion sprinters!
This list includes the legendary Senor Santa – the first sprinter to win over R1 000 000 in prize money, and Harry Hotspur, who won the G1 Natal Flying Championship in a brief, but brilliant, career.

Other star graduates to have emerged from the Freeman’s farm include the brilliant, but ill-fated, G1 Cape Guineas winner Flight Alert, champion filly Kiss of Peace, and G1 winners Force Ten and Welcome Boy.

Boland Stud’s graduates have also enjoyed stud, with Harry Hotspur one of South Africa’s top locally bred sires to have emerged in the past 30 years. Star filly, Kiss Of Peace, is another to have done well in the paddocks  – the grey is the dam of 2 graded stakes winners, as well as the dam of G1 performer, Kiss Again.

Boland’s Eugene Freeman is offering a small, but select, draft at the 2013 National Sale. They offer four yearlings, two colts and two fillies at the sale, each by a different stallion.

Lot 31 is a colt by champion Argonaut, a son of outstanding sire Western Winter. This unnamed chestnut is a half-brother to 5 winners, including G3 winner London Guest. His dam, by dominant champion broodmare sire Northern Guest, is a three parts sister to Boland’s champion sprinter Senor Santa (by Northern Guest). His second dam is the high-class filly Magic Model, winner of the G2 Natalia Stakes.

Lot 102 is a filly bred to fly. She is a daughter of leading sire Var, whose daughters include champion Val de Ra, and this season’s sprinting sensation, Via Afrca. This filly is bred on the same Var/Qui Danzig cross which bred Via Africa. Her dam is the G3 placed Qui Success, who ran third in the Fillies Nursery. There are no fewer than seven G1 winners under the fourth dam, herself a champion sprinter.

Lot 180 is a daughter of Captain Al, the sire of 98 black type horses. Captain Al is an excellent sire of fillies, and has sired such top-class fillies as Captain’s Lover, Captain’s Gal and Emerald Cove, to name a few. This well bred bay is out of a winning half-sister to two graded stakes winners, including G1 Gold Cup winner Thundering Star. This is an outstanding filly family, which includes one of the greatest female racehorses ever to grace the South Africa turf, Olympic Duel. The filly’s half-brother, Manievic, is highly regarded, and was due to make his debut in the Gr3 Godolphin Barb Stakes.

Lot 321 is a full brother to the useful filly, Miss Catona. The colt is by the highly successful Var, sire of Horse of the Year Variety Club, and currently one of South Africa’s leading sire of 2yos. The colt is out of the smart stakes placed winner of six, Calpurnia. The latter is by emerging broodmare sire Caesour – whose daughters have produced numerous stakes winners including champion Dancewiththedevil. The colt’s second dam is the G1 mare My Squeeza, and his dam is intriguingly inbred to Thong through Thatch and Nureyev.

The Boland Stud draft will be available for viewing in Block C at the TBA block in Germiston.
