Double for Flyer

Gary Player Stud Farm’s resident sire Noordhoek Flyer enjoyed a smart double at Greyville night on Friday.
The former Guineas winner had a 100% strike rate on Friday with his only two runners on the card both saluting first past the post!

First of the “Flyers” to win was Noordhoek Ice who broke his maiden convincingly over 1600m. Sent off a hot 15-20 favourite, Noordhoek Ice ran on strongly to win by half a length to win for trainer Dean Kannemeyer, former conditioner of his sire. Bred by Wilgerbosdrift, Noordhoek Ice is out of four time winning and stakes placed Western Winter mare, Ice House.

Second of the Noordhoek Flyers to win on Friday was the filly Gavea Girl, who caused a 25-1 upset when landing the fourth race of the evening, a maiden plate over 1600m. The Alistair Gordon trained sophomore clearly enjoyed the step up to 1600m, as well as the polytrack surface. Bred by The Khaya Stables, Gavea Girl was a bargain buy at R50 000 at last year’s National 2YO Sale.

To date, Noordhoek Flyer has had six individual winners from his first crop, and 12 of his first crop runners have either won or finished in the money. His winners include the above mentioned pair of Noordhoek Ice and Gavea Girl, as well as the very promising Planner, who won at just the second time of asking.
