Drakenstein Stud are proud to offer an exceptional draft of two-year-olds at Saturday’s CTS Ready To Run Sale Presented by Lanzerac Hotel & Spa.

The stud will offer four quality lots at Saturday’s Durbanville racecourse based sale, which is scheduled to get underway at 18:00.
Drakenstein will also offer, as agent, four other well related two-year-olds, with their high quality draft including juveniles by such prominent and popular stallions as Oratorio, Trippi, Var, and What A Winter.

First of the draft to enter the ring is lot 22, a colt by ever popular sire Var, sire of past champions Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa. This colt, offered by Drakenstein Stud as agent, is a half brother to a winner and is out of G3 Three Troikas Stakes heroine Sharp Mistress. Inbred to the great broodmare Crimson Saint, this colt’s stakes winning second dam is a half sister to none other than former Equus Champion, and G1 winning speedster, Lady Windermere.

Next into the ring (and also offered as agent), is lot 23 – a bay colt from the first crop of former European champion, and four time G1 winner Twice Over. This colt, a half brother to the very speedy Tour De Var, is out of a four time winning Silvano half sister to former Equus Champion Consensual (dam of smart recent winner Just Sensual), and this is the same family as current high class 3yos Attenborough and Myfunnyvalentine.

Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire, and multiple Equus Champion, What A Winter proved very popular with his first yearlings last season, and he is the sire of lot 53. This bay filly, offered by Drakenstein Stud as agent, is out of a stakes placed National Assembly half sister to smart, stakes winning sprinter Prince Elliodor. Safe to say, this filly is be very speedy indeed!

Another sire with his first SA crop to race this season is former European champion and proven international sire Oratorio. The latter, who has seven international G1 winners to his credit, had first yearlings fetch up to R3.2 million in 2016, and he has a colt here. Offered as agent, this colt (lot 65) is out of a Captain Al half sister to G2 2yo Rebel To The Fore –with the latter being by a Danzig line sire (as is Oratorio).

What A Winter, from the great Gone West male line and from the same family as Sir Tristram and Hyperion, is also responsible for lot 137 –a half sister to five winners, and out of the useful stakes placed 2yo –Letsimpress. This is the high class international family responsible for the likes of Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Katies and Japanese Horse Of The Year Admire Moon.

Drakenstein Stud are proud to offer the only 2yo by reigning champion sire Trippi on the RTR Sale. This lovely filly, a full sister to recent winner Magic Trick, is catalogued as lot 140 and is out of Jet Master’s G1 Empress Club Stakes winning daughter Little Miss Magic –whose own dam is by champion broodmare sire Al Mufti out of G1 Fillies Guineas winner State Treasure.
Trippi is an exceptional sire of fillies, ie champion Hammie’s Hooker, US G1 winner R Heat Lightning and five time G1 winner Inara, and he is also shaping up to be an exceptional broodmare sire –he is damsire of Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile hero Liam’s Map and 2017 classic hope Not This Time among others.

Dual Guineas winner Noordhoek Flyer, a close relative of G1 Dubai World Cup hero African Story, has one in this draft –lot 142. This colt, a half brother to 4 winners including the stakes performer Winter Heart, is from the family of dual G1 winning Coolmore sire Pride Of Dubai, Equus Champion Enaad and the sire sensations Invincible Spirit and Kodiac –among many others!

Inbreeding to the great Blushing Groom has produced many superstars –including 2000 Guineas hero Footstepsinthesand and US champ Take Charge Brandi. This same pattern can be seen in lot 152 –a chestnut colt from the first crop of outstanding racehorse and dual G1 Champion Stakes hero Twice Over. This colt is out of a winning half sister to G3 Cape Classic hero Chave De Oura and his second dam won the G1 SA Fillies Sprint.
