Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Duke Of Marmalade will be doubly represented in the G2 DFS Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster on Thursday.
The former Cartier Champion’s runners are fellow Cartier Champion Simple Verse and recent stakes winner Pamona.
Both fillies are trained by Ralph Beckett. Simple Verse, a dual Group 1 winner who made history when landing the G1 Ladbrokes St Leger last year (she was the first filly since User Friendly to win the oldest British classic), will be bidding for her sixth career win, and the four-year-old has already banked more than £840 000 in prize money.
Stable mate Pamona won the Listed John’s Smith Silver Cup three starts back and also ran third, to subsequent G1 winner Curvy, in last year’s G2 Ribblesdale Stakes.
The Park Hill Stakes, formerly known as the fillies’ St Leger, is an historic race, with a long and impressive roll of past winners.
The race’s previous winners include Cinq A Sept (ancestress of the likes of Alleged and Secretariat), Oaks winner Pia, Sunny Cove (ancestress of Street Cry and Shamardal), Yorkshire Oaks winner Attica Meli, G1 winner High Hawk, Eva Luna (dam of St Leger winner Brian Boru) and Madame Dubois (dam of successful Cape sire Count Dubois and Irish 2000 Guineas winner Indian Haven).
