Drakenstein Stud’s world class sire Duke Of Marmalade has made a huge impression this year with his runners around the world. And, judging by the quality of his first crop of South African born foals, Duke Of Marmalade is set to enjoy a similar level of success in this country.
The latest Duke Of Marmalade foal to catch the eye is this lovely filly out of the top class racemare King’s Temptress.
A daughter of 2000 Guineas winner King Of Kings, King’s Temptress made a stunning debut when she won the Gr2 SA Fillies Nursery at the rewarding odds of 150-1! In the process, King’s Temptress accounted for the high class Trippi filly Franny, a dual Grade 3 winner who banked more than R650 000 in prize money.
King’s Temptress trained on well to win the Gr3 Three Troikas Stakes at three and retired with earnings of more than R500 000 – a handsome return on her R70 000 purchase price.
Interestingly, this filly is bred on the very successful Duke Of Marmalade/Sadler’s Wells cross. This pattern has produced such top class performers as champion Simple Verse, G1 Irish Oaks/Yorkshire Oaks runner up Venus De Milo and high class stakes performers Alive Alive Oh, and Marmalady.
Duke Of Marmalade, Cartier Champion Older Male of 2008, has 25 black type winners to his credit a tally which includes European classic winners Simple Verse, Star Of Seville, Nutan and Sound Of Freedom. His brilliant daughter Simple Verse, a record breaking winner of the 2015 G1 Ladbrokes St Leger, stays in training next year where her aims include a tilt at Britain’s top WFA contest –the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (a race her sire won back in 2008).
