Duke Of Marmalade filly makes 170,000 guineas

A daughter of Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Duke Of Marmalade proved popular on the third day of Tattersalls December Mare Sale.
Saltanat (Duke Of Marmalade) was knocked down to Saeed Manana for 170 000 guineas –which made the five year old the session’s fifth top lot.

A half sister to Oaks winner Qualify, the three time winning Saltanat is expected to be covered by G1 2000 Guineas/Lockinge Stakes winner Night Of Thunder, a son of Dubawi who is standing his first season at stud next year.

Catalogued as lot 2288, Saltanat was consigned to the sale by Brookdale Farm.

One of the leading sires in Europe, Duke Of Marmalade is the sire of 25 individual black type winners including Cartier Champion Simple Verse and French Oaks heroine Star Of Seville.

The son of Danehill, Europe’s Cartier Champion Older Male of 2008, hails from the same female line as outstanding sires Al Mufti, A P Indy, Lemon Drop Kid, Summer Squall and Tiger Ridge. The latter, a former Leading First Crop Sire in Florida, was responsible for Saturday’s G2 Investec Dingaans winner Noah From Goa.
