Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Duke Of Marmalade has been enjoying another good year, with his runners excelling all over the world.
His latest winner to catch the eye is the Australian based Maven Wiz, a winner of two of his last four outings.
Trained by Anthony Cummings, the 3yo gelding Maven Wiz (who beat older horses two starts back) could run next in the G1 Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm. He is not the first Duke Of Marmalade sired runner to shine in Australia this season –with the Duke’s talented daughter Diamond Made landing the G3 TAB Adrian Knox Stakes in April.
Interestingly Maven Wiz is out of a mare by Fasliyev- also damsire of The Duke’s multiple group winning son Big Orange.
Duke Of Marmalade will also be strongly represented in Saturday’s G1 Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Cup, where his champion and dual G1 winning daughter Simple Verse takes on seven rivals, including multiple G1 winner Postponed, G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Found and Arabian Queen, who defeated champion Golden Horn to land last year’s G1 Juddmonte International.
Europe’s Cartier Champion Older Male of 2008, Duke Of Marmalade has 28 stakes winners to his credit, headed by the G1 winners Nutan, Simple Verse and Star Of Seville.
His first South African born yearlings will sell in 2017.
