Duke Of Marmalade has enjoyed a truly fantastic year in 2015. The son of Danehill was represented by four individual classic winners, had a daughter named Cartier Champion, and had stakes winners ranging in trips from 1000m to 3200m. “The Duke” had stakes winners in all of Australia, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and South Africa during 2015.
With the flat-season all but ended in Europe, Duke Of Marmalade ends the year with his runners having earned an impressive £2,886, 133 –or over R62 million!
This places the former Cartier Champion in tenth place on Europe’s Leading Sires List, and he is clear of some outstanding stallions.
Among those sires behind Duke Of Marmalade on this list are the likes of Dansili (12th), Fastnet Rock (13th), Mastercraftsman (16th), Pivotal (17th), Exceed And Excel (18th), and High Chaparral (19th). Between them, the above mentioned sires’ offspring won such races as the Sword Dancer Invitational Handicap, Investec Oaks, Champion Stakes, Falmouth Stakes, Prix Saint Alary, Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, Pretty Polly Stakes, and Coventry Stakes in 2015.
Duke Of Marmalade sired runners have won eleven stakes races in 2015 –including the G1 Ladbrokes St Leger, G1 QIPCO British Champions F&M Stakes, G1 Prix de Diane, G1 Deutsches Derby and G2 Goodwood Cup. This is an impressive tally of feature races for a stallion whose offspring are now truly coming into their own.
Duke Of Marmalade, whose German Derby winning son Nutan will stand his first season at stud next year, looks set for another good year in 2016 –with his champion daughter Simple Verse hopefully on track for a tilt at the G1 King George IV and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. He also has a number of promising sophomores for 2016, including Investec Derby entrant Royal Reserve, Tiptree and Zest.
