Duke Of Marmalade’s remarkable good run of success this year has ensured that the champion son of Danehill is high up on many European Sires Lists.
“The Duke” is currently fourth Leading Sire of 3yos in Europe for 2015, with his sophomores having earned over €1.8 million this year alone. His top three-year-olds include the classic winners Simple Verse (G1 Ladbrokes St Leger), Star Of Seville (G1 Prix de Diane), Nutan (G1 Deutsches Derby), and Sound Of Freedom (G3 Premio Regina Elena). The latter also finished second in the G2 Derby Italiano.
The only stallions ahead of Duke Of Marmalade on Europe’s Leading Sires of 3YOS list are Dubawi, Galileo and Cape Cross, and Duke Of Marmalade is currently higher than the likes of outstanding sires Fastnet Rock, Invincible Spirit and Shamardal, to name but three.
Duke Of Marmalade, whose G2 Princess of Wales’s Stakes winner Big Orange is on course for a crack at November’s Melbourne Cup, is also Europe’s tenth leading sire by stakes won.
At the time of writing, Duke Of Marmalade’s progeny have amassed an impressive €2 388 908 on the continent this season.
He is also currently second on Germany’s General Sires List, despite having been represented by just seven runners in that country.
To date, Duke Of Marmalade (whose offspring have won group/graded races from 1000 to 3200 metres in 2015) has been represented by nearly 40 black type performers including the outstanding filly Venus De Milo, second in both the G1 Irish and G1 Yorkshire Oaks respectively.
A five time G1 winning half brother to G1 Investec Derby winner Ruler Of The World, Duke Of Marmalade’s eagerly awaited first South African foals are arriving now.
