Dynasty heads Sires List

Highlands Farm’s leading sire Dynasty, sire of record breaking recent Gr3 Kuda Matchem Stakes winner Act Of War, was back in the headlines this past weekend.

The former Horse Of The Year, himself bred by Wilgerbosdrift, had four more winners over the weekend, with Dynasty winners coming in three different provinces.
First of the Dynasty winners to score was the Tara Laing trained Bolt Of Light, who romped home to win his fourth race by four lengths for owners Ingrid and Markus Jooste.

Dynasty daughter Swift Sarah, who was bred by Highlands, made it two wins from just three outings when she downed some really talented fillies in Saturday’s Jeff Moffett Memorial Progress Plate at Turffontein. A R600 000 purchase from the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, Swift Sarah’s sole unplaced effort to date has come in last season’s Gr1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship. The Chris Van Niekerk owned filly is now likely to be pointed towards the inaugural CTS $1 million race in January.

Swift Sarah’s sire had a notable double at Durbanville, where his well bred sons Nassa and Our Icon landed races three and eight respectively. Like his sire, Nassa was bred by Wilgerbosdrift, and this R800 000 buy from the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale picked up the first win of his career when landing the Maurizfontein Stud Maiden Plate over 1600m. Trained by Brett Crawford, Nassa is out of the Rich Man’s Gold mare Cosima Liszt.

Like Swift Sarah, the blue blooded Our Icon was bred by Highlands Farm. The handsome colt, who cost R3 million at the 2013 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, made it two wins from just four outings when landing the Drakenstein Stud MR 72 Handicap over 2000m. Our Icon is trained by Dean Kannemeyer, who trained his sire to win such races as the G1 Vodacom Durban July, G1 Cape Derby, G1 Daily News 2000 and G1 SA Guineas.

His continuing run of good form has seen Dynasty rise to take head the General Sires List. At the time of writing, Dynasty sired runners have earned over R2.6 million and he is currently clear of runner up Kahal, with such outstanding sires as Trippi, Silvano and Captain Al further down the log. With a plethora of talented runners, such as Act Of War, Legislate and Futura representing him this season, Dynasty looks on track for another tremendous season in 2015-2016.

Last season’s Equus Outstanding Stallion, Dynasty is the sire of three sons named Horse Of The Year (Irish Flame, Legislate, Futura) –and counting!
