Exciting Gitano has so much to offer

The Alchemy’s well performed and beautifully bred young stallion Gitano Hernando is a young horse who certainly has plenty to offer breeders.
A top class and durable racehorse, Gitano Hernando offers breeders the chance to use a horse who in many ways bears striking similarities to former champion sire Silvano, one of the best stallions to stand in South Africa over the past two decades.
Both Gitano Hernando and Silvano were bred by Dr Andreas Jacobs and both sires hails from the same Niniski male line.

Both were outstanding and tough racehorses, who raced in no fewer than six different countries, with both Gitano Hernando and Silvano landing the prestigious G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup. Gitano Hernando’s greatest achievement was probably winning the Goodwood Stakes Gr1 at Santa Anita (flown over from England) at the age of 3.
Silvano and Gitano Hernando are thus both US Grade One winners, and both stallions raced sound throughout his respective career.

Gitano Hernando, who amassed over $2 million during his racing career, won four pattern races during his career, with his principal victories including the G1 Singapore Cup and G1 Goodwood Stakes. He also won the G3 Diamond Stakes and Listed Winter Derby Trial, and was also placed in the G2 Maktoum Challenge and G3 Dee Stakes. Gitano Hernando defeated many of the best horses of his generation, with his list of defeated rivals including such remarkable G1 winners as Chinchon (Singapore Cup), Colonel John (Santa Anita Derby), Crowded House (Racing Post Trophy), Furthest Land (Breeders Cup Dirt Mile), Fuisse (Prix du Moulin), Mine That Bird (Kentucky Derby), Monzante (Eddie Read Hcp), Poet’s Voice (QE II Stakes), Presvis (Dubai Duty Free) Red Desire (Shuka Sho), Richard’s Kid (Pacific Classic –twice), Tiago (Santa Anita Derby), champion Twice Over, and Vision D’Etat (French Derby).

Gitano Hernando was also extremely versatile, winning G1 races on both turf and all weather.

He is a son of French Derby winner Hernando, a hugely successful stallion whose other notable runners including major European classic winners Holding Court, Look Here and Sulamani.

Out of a mare who five stakes races during her career (Gino’s Spirits’ major win came in the G3 Noble Damsel Hcp where she defeated Barbaro’s dam La Ville Rouge), Gitano Hernando is from a magnificent female line.
His family is noted for producing outstanding juveniles, with Gitano’s relatives including such outstanding 2yo champions as Admire Cozzene, and Toormore, to name but a few.
Gitano Hernando’s third dam is 1000 Guineas Mrs Mcardy, and his sixth dam is champion Star Of India.
He traces back to Miranda – a full sister to legendary racemare and producer Pretty Polly – the ancestress of such outstanding sires as Great Nephew, Nearctic, Preamble II and Sybil’s Nephew, to name but a few.

Understandably, Gitano’s first yearlings have proved popular with buyers, and the sire’s first crop has already fetched up to R350 000 in the sales ring – a bright start indeed for this exciting young prospect!
David Allan of Allan Bloodlines was brought in by the stallion owner’s representatives to create familiarity with Gitano Hernando and, as it turned out, to help The Alchemy create a good book of mares in 2014 for a stallion who had moved. Breeders supporting Gitano Hernando can expect to be in good company as his first crop head for the racecourse.
