Exciting young sires well represented at Cape Sales
Some of South Africa’s most exciting young stallions are well represented on both the Cape Premier Yearling Sale (set to take place at the CTICC this Thursday and Friday), and Val De Vie Sale (which takes place next month).
Among sires with their first yearlings on offer are – Bold Silvano, Curved Ball, Gimmethegreenlight, Gitano Hernando, Golden Sword, Main Aim, Pathfork and Philanthropist.
The handsome Bold Silvano, who stands at the Ascot Stud, is a Vodacom Durban July and Equus Champion, who won or placed in no fewer than 10 feature races. The son of Champion Sire Silvano also won the Gr3 Al Maktoum Challenge on his first Dubai outing, where Bold Silvano accounted for a world class field. He has five lots on offer at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale (including a colt out of the well performed mare Angel At My Table), and another three at the Val De Vie Sale.
Former Dingaans winner Curved Ball, who stands at the Bush Hill Stud in KZN, has a sole lot on offer at the Cape Sales. The well bred son of Champion Australian Sire Fastnet Rock is the sire of a colt on offer at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale (Lot 69). This well bred colt is out of three time winning Jet Master half sister to R2 million earner, and 2015 Met runner, Tellina.
Varsfontein Stud’s Gimmethegreenlight is another exciting young sire represented at the two Cape sales. The former Queen’s Plate winner also has six yearlings entered on the Val De Vie Sale, where his draft includes a colt out of National Assembly’s Grade 1 winning daughter Duchess Daba (Lot 52).
Gitano Hernando, who stands at The Alchemy, is one of the best performed stallions to retire to stud in South Africa in recent times. The Nijinsky II line horse won two major Grade 1 races during his career (Goodwood Hcp, Singapore Cup) and amassed over $2.1 million in prize money. From an outstanding female line, the flashy horse has two lots on offer on the Premier Sale – including a half sister to brilliant 2yo Hot Affair (Lot 83).
The Hernando horse also has four yearlings on offer at the Val De Vie Yearling Sale – with his numbers including a filly from the family of G1 winner Carry On Alice (Lot 45) and a filly out of the stakes winning mare Lady Perez (Lot 69).
