Sandown Stud’s resident sire Ashaawes was represented by a smart first time out winner at Greyville on Friday night.
His two-year-old daughter Maria Estella bounded clear to make a winning debut by two and three quarter lengths over 1000 metres, and she looks a good sort in the making.
Bred by the Boland Stud, Maria Estella, who is out of the Cadeaux Genereux mare Margarita Maggie, was a R50 000 bargain buy at the 2014 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale.
Her sire has made a good start with his juveniles this season, with five of Ashaawes’ seven 2yo runners having either won or finished in the money thus far.
A son of world leading sire Kingmambo, whose sire sons are carrying all before them this year, Ashaawes has enjoyed another good season in 2014-2015, with his runners including G3 Matchem Stakes winner Reim, the lightning fast 3yo sprinter Asstar, and talented Zimbabwean filly Eversolucky.
The latter, one of the best of her age North of the border, has won or placed in all 12 of her career outings, with her victories including the Listed Silver Slipper Stakes.
One of South Africa’s leading stallions by Average Earnings Per Runners, Ashaawes proved popular in 2014 when he covered a high class book of 70 mares.
He definitely has the look of a sire going places about him!
