Feature double for sensational Var

Avontuur’s leading sire Var has been in tremendous form over the past few weeks, with his juveniles in particular catching the eye.
The sprint king was at it again at Turffontein on Saturday, when his runners captured a pair of black type features. Var’s 2yos were particularly impressive last weekend, with daughter Exquisite Touch landing the Listed Betting World Limpopo Win A Car Draw Ruffian Stakes (with fourth place finisher, Star Burst Galaxy another daughter of Var) and son Rivarine finishing second in the Listed Betting World Mpumalanga Win A Car Draw Storm Bird Stakes.

The Waterford Stud bred Exquisite Touch stamped herself as a top class juvenile when making it two wins from as many outings when romping home to win the Ruffian Stakes by 1.3 lengths. One of six winners on the card for champion jockey S’Manga Khumalo, the filly had previously beaten winners when victorious on debut by over three lengths, and she looks an exceptional prospect.

Exquisite Touch accounted for the promising pair of Seattle Singer and Intriguing Lady in a time of 56.36 for the 1000m, and looks destined to take her place in some of South Africa’s bigger juvenile contests following this facile Listed win.

She is the second daughter of Var to win the Listed Ruffian Stakes –following Variometer (2011).
