Feature race double for Silvano

Former champion sire Silvano has been on a roll of late, with his offspring having won feature races over 1160m and 2000m in the space of seven days. Both of his stakes winning offspring, Inaninstant and Janoobi respectively, were bred by Maine Chance Farms, who stand Silvano.

First of the Silvano progeny to land a black type race was promising 3yo filly Inaninstant, who won last Saturday’s Listed Oaks Trial at Turffontein.
Inaninstant, who races for her breeders, made it three wins on the bounce when running on too strongly for fellow Sean Tarry trained filly Intergalactic. Inaninstant, who is out of a Northern Guest mare, like fellow high class Silvano runners Arion and July hero Power King, has now won three of only five starts and has prize money of R227 750 to her credit.

Fast forward a week and another Silvano sired runner was in the winners enclosure following the running of a Turffontein feature race.
This time it was the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum owned Janoobi, who scored a facile off the pace win in the G3 Protea Stakes over 1100m.

The 2yo Janoobi, a R1.2 million buy from last year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, has now won two of three outings and looks to have the scope to make up into a legitimate Grade One contender.

Out of the Rakeen mare Shasta Daisy, Janoobi is a full brother to Sedge, whose seven wins included the G3 Champion Juvenile Cup and the Listed East Cape Sprint Cup.

Janoobi’s owner, Sheikh Hamdan, also owns the promising Silvano 2yo Daffiq, who ran second, on debut, against older horses at Scottsville on Sunday.

The sire of 16 G1 winners (and counting), Silvano has 13 lots on offer at the upcoming Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale, including a colt out of champion Dancer’s Daughter (Lot 30), a half brother to G1 winning sprinter Normanz (Lot90), a half brother to dual G1 winner Thunder Dance (Lot 156) and full siblings to G1 performers Bravura, Punta Arenas and Vercingetorix (Lots 117, 132 and 120 respectively).

The champion son of Lomitas is also strongly represented at the National Yearling Sale, with his 21 lots including a full brother to Dubai performer Whistle Stop (Lot 108), a colt out of Horse Of The Year Ilha Da Vitoria (Lot 141), a colt out of G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Royal Fantasy (Lot 297), and a half brother to recent G1 SA Fillies Classic runner up Negroamaro (Lot 388).
