First feature glory for Judpot
Varsfontein Stud’s immaculately bred sire Judpot has gotten off to the best possible start with his first crop of 2yos this season.
The magnificent son of A P Indy recently had his first feature race winner, when his unbeaten son Colour of Courage won Sunday’s Gr2 Umkhomazi Stakes at Scottsville.
An impressive winner on debut, Colour of Courage showed real courage to deny the promising Ace Antonius in the Gr2 feature, and he could step up to Gr1 class next time out.
Bred by the Backworth Stud, Colour of Courage is owned by Messrs Nairac, Maingard and Baroness Bergsma of Longford.
Judpot, who is currently South Africa’s third leading sire, has been represented by five winners to date, including impressive victors such as Its Freezing, Forest Indigo and Lady Morgana.
A son of legendary mare Miesque, Judpot proved popular at the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
Three yearlings sired by Judpot fetched up to R450 000:
a half-brother to Master Plan – bought by Pat Shaw
a half-brother to top 3yo War Horse- bought by Misty Meadows
a half-brother to Gr2 hero Winter Weather – purchased by Mike Bass
Judpot himself is a half-brother to breed shaping sire Kingmambo, whose 76 stakes winners include such champions as El Condor Pasa, King’s Best, Lemon Drop and Henrythenavigator. The latter, from his first crop of 3yos, has two runners in Saturday’s QIPCO 2000 Guineas.
