First foal for champion Futura

Drakenstein Stud’s exciting young stallion, and former Horse Of The Year, Futura, was represented by his first foal when this striking filly was born at Highlands Stud, part of Ridgemont Group, on August 4th.

The filly was produced by stakes winner Royal Trip (whose wins included the Listed Nkosazana Stakes), a daughter of Drakenstein Stud’s own resident champion sire Trippi.

Her sire Futura was an exceptional racehorse, and South Africa’s Horse Of The Year and Champion Older Male/Middle Distance Horse in 2014-2015. The handsome bay won nine (and won or placed in a total of 16 of his 18 outings) and banked over R4.3 million in prize money during a career which saw Futura triumph in all of the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, G1 J&B Met and the G1 Champions Cup (twice).

Among the notable performers defeated by Futura during his stellar career were champions Capetown Noir, Cherry On The Top, French Navy, In The Fast Lane, Legislate, Majmu, and Legal Eagle.

Futura is one of three sons of Horse Of The Year and outstanding sire Dynasty to have been named Horse Of The Year, with this tally including a fellow Drakenstein sire in Legislate.

Dynasty, whose 47 stakes winners include 13 individual G1 winners thus far, enjoyed a magnificent season in 2016-2017 with his G1 winners including such Equus Award contenders as Eyes Wide Open, Lady In Black, Bela-Bela and Just Sensual.

Futura bids to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Dynasty, Captain Al, Jet Master and What A Winter and become the next top class South African bred stallion!
