Former Equus Champion Soft Falling Rain has his first foals on the ground this season, and they have already made quite an impression.
Among the early foals to have arrived thus far by that son of National Assembly is this lovely filly (from Lammerskraal Stud) out of the Western Winter mare Rockaberry Lane.
The latter is a three time winning own sister to former G1 Cape Guineas winner Solo Traveller, as well as to former G2 KRA Fillies Guineas runner up Strawberry Ice –herself the dam of recent G2 Gold Bracelet heroine Flying Ice (by Go Deputy).
Soft Falling Rain, who was bred by Highlands Farm, was an unbeaten Equus Champion at two, when his victories included a four and a half length triumph in the G1 SA Nursery.
Exported to Dubai, Soft Falling Rain went on to win his next three outings, with his winning streak culminating in an historic victory in the G2 Godolphin Mile –Soft Falling Rain was the first 3yo ever to win that 1600m contest.
While Soft Falling Rain lost his undefeated record next time out, he bounced back to winning ways with a fluent and stylish victory in the G2 Nayef Joel Stakes, where he accounted for the group winners Montiridge, Premio Loco and Penitent, as well as 2000 Guineas runner up Glory Awaits.
One of 16 G1 winners sired by the Danzig son National Assembly (whose son National Emblem left behind 10 individual G1 winners), Soft Falling Rain is out of the winning Giant’s Causeway mare Gardener’s Delight. The latter is the dam of five winners (from as many runners to date) including the high class sprinter and G3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap runner up Splendid Garden and Hong Kong winner My Nephew Eric.
This is also the family of 2016 G3 Gotham Stakes winner Shagaf, G1 Kentucky Oaks heroine Gal In A Ruckus, and US G1 winner Habibti (dam of Breeders’ Cup winner Eldaafer).
He stands at Wilgerbosdrift Stud for a fee of R40 000.
