First Graded winner for Querari

Maine Chance Farms’ exciting first crop sire Querari was represented by his first Graded winning offspring when his daughter Cosmic Light maintained her unbeaten record to lift the Gr2 The Debutante at Greyville on Saturday.

One of two winners for Querari this past weekend (his son Ledbury having defeated older horses at Kenilworth on the same day), Cosmic Light, one of two runners in The Debutante for her sire, ran on strongly under Muzi Yeni to claim top honours in the R200 000 race, defeating Rebel King filly Rebel To The Fore into second place, with third place finisher Lala nearly three lengths further back in third place.

Now unbeaten in two starts, the Duncan Howells trained Cosmic Light, whose dam Cosmic Light is by Maine Chance Farms’ great sire Silvano, was a R200 000 purchase from last year’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Her Group 1 winning sire Querari is currently the second leading first crop sire, by stakes, with his eight individual winners having amassed more than R800 000 in stakes – and counting!

The son of Oasis Dream, who was responsible for a R420 000 filly at the recent Klawervlei Farm Sale, is also the sire of talented stakes performers Champery and Dynamic Speed from his first crop of juvenile runners to date.

Winner of the Premio Presidente Della Repubblica, Querari hails from the red hot Green Desert male line responsible for the likes of recent G1 winners Golden Horn, Goldream, Muhaarar, and Territories as well as the sensational stallions Cape Cross, Invincible Spirit and Oasis Dream himself.
