First runner a winner for Bold Silvano

Ascot Stud’s exciting new sire Bold Silvano made an eye catching start to his stud career when his very first runner won on debut at Fairview on Monday.
His daughter Besotted, trained by Gavin Smith, won a maiden juvenile plate over 800m in gutsy style.
The Riyo Stud bred miss was a bargain R50 000 buy from this year’s National 2YO Sale.

Besotted, who is from the wonderful Bourtai family, is out of the Point Given mare Right Call – whose relatives including G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Aptitude and his very close relative, US Champion Slew O’Gold, as well as G1 Belmont Stakes winner and former local sire Coastal.

Her sire is the first of the first crop sires off the mark this season.

Bold Silvano, who was bred by Ascot Stud, was a superb racehorse, whose 7 wins included the G1 Vodacom Durban July and G2 Astrapak 1900.
Sent to campaign in Dubai, the handsome bay (South Africa’s Equus Champion Middle Distance Horse) landed the G3 Al Maktoum Challenge (Round 2), where he accounted for the outstanding international performers Interaction, G1 Dubai Duty Free hero Al Shemali, $2 000 000 earner Gitano Hernando, and G1 Racing Post Trophy winner Crowded House.

While a superb athlete who matured with time, Bold Silvano was also a top class two-year-old, who won two of his four outings as a juvenile, including the G3 Champion Juvenile Cup.

The first son of champion sire Silvano (sire of the first three home this year in the Vodacom Durban July) to retire to stud in South Africa, Bold Silvano had a 2015 stud fee of R15 000.

Bred like champion Kings Gambit (by Silvano out of an Al Mufti mare), Bold Silvano has a single lot on offer at January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale – this is a colt out of the high class race mare Angel At My Table, a classy sprinter who won seven and finished second in the G3 Southern Cross Stakes (Lot 143).

He also has two lots on offer at the following month’s Val De Vie Yearling Sale – a half brother to 3 winners including the above average Hammie’s Dynasty (Lot 111), and a colt whose dam is a half sister to champion and classic winner King’s Chapel (Lot 113).
